“The key priority when creating a new product is storytelling through design.”

A blend of her passion for design, love for Indian stories (history/culture), and the idea of minimalism led Aditi to launch Indus People in October 2018. A Graphic Designer turned Entrepreneur, she has a keen eye for detail, enjoys traveling, and indulges in meaningful storytelling through her minimal aesthetics.

Premium stoneware handcrafted by Indian artisans, Indus People homeware is inspired by stories of India, narrated in a serene and refined way, with a modern design sensibility. The flowing lines and curves of the tableware and the natural shapes and textures offer a visual representation of how neo-Indian design and ceramic stories have evolved over the years. There is a heightened luxury and quality about the pieces, and yet the pleasing soft colors, unique variations, and overall fluid appearance introduce a sense of comfort and familiarity.

“Having worked in the design and branding space for over 8 years, I have built brands for others, but trust me it’s most difficult when you are your own client. As far as Indus People is concerned, we aren’t just designing a minimal product. Each product – its color, shape, texture, and material is a certain way because of the story it is linked to, or the place it is inspired from. Our stories are hidden in the colors and textures we use. We believe there is more joy in discovery.”, says Aditi.

Over time, Indus has gathered coverage in India's leading home and design magazines. They have also created gift boxes for big names like Burberry,  Amazon, Microsoft, Boston Consulting Group, and so on. Since April 2019 they have worked with hospitality clients like The Bombay Canteen, Third Wave Coffee Roasters, Subko, Bungalow NYC, Boojee Mumbai, and many more, to create custom-designed tableware. Their tableware is currently being used by over 180 restaurants and cafes across the country.

Indus People’s pieces are clay-fired at very high temperatures, making them strong and sturdy. They are manufactured through the slip casting process, where liquid clay is poured into molds and then kiln-fired. The visual stories behind the collections are Indian but there is nothing overtly-Indian about them. Perfect for urban homes around the world, they are sophisticated designs that tell a deep-rooted story, putting a smile on everyday experiences.
