How To Care For Your Ware
Ceramics are timeless heirloom pieces that can stay for generations when loved right! Be it delicate porcelain dinnerware, sturdy stoneware plates, or decorative earthenware, ceramics bring both beauty and functionality to life. They can be intricate and delicate, like fine china adorned with delicate patterns, or robust and rustic, like handmade pottery with earthy textures. Nevertheless, they are strong and remarkably durable; all one needs to do is remember some little details when handling these precious wares and they will always stay good as new for regular use.
Gentle Cleaning
Being a kitchen favourite, ceramics are loved for their beautiful appeal, versatile functionality, and ease of maintenance. To keep them looking their best, use a soft cloth or sponge with mild soap and lukewarm water to help maintain their smooth surface for years to come. Harsh chemicals, abrasive scrubbing pads, or steel wool are not friends of ceramic wares. It can scratch the surface, and the piece may lose its shine.
In case of stubborn stains, soak the ceramic piece in soapy water before gently scrubbing it with a sponge. Allow the ceramics to air dry, or use a soft, lint-free cloth to pat them dry. Avoid stacking wet ceramics, which can trap moisture.
Dishwasher safety
Most ceramic dishes are safe to wash in the dishwasher, yet always check if your ceramics are labeled. While using a dishwasher, use the gentle cycle and enjoy the simplicity of taking care of ceramics and keep enjoying their timeless beauty without any worries!
Microwave safety
While many ceramic dishes are also microwave-safe, always check if your ceramics are labeled so or check care instructions tips for the product from your manufacturer. Ceramic pieces with metallic details, such as gold, silver, or platinum, or with visible cracks or chips, should never be used in the microwave.
When reheating food, just transfer it to a microwave-safe container without any metal to ensure both your ceramics and microwave remain in top shape. It's an easy way to make sure they stay beautiful and last a long time in your kitchen.
Sudden Temperature changes
Although high-fired at 1200°C, Ceramics can be slightly sensitive to sudden temperature changes. It's super easy if you just use protective materials like a cloth or trivets along with the wares to prevent direct contact between extreme temperatures. For eg, while transferring wares from a microwave oven to a cold countertop. It is recommended to try and avoid drastic changes like moving the ware straight from the refrigerator to a heated microwave. Instead, allow gradual temperature changes to prevent damage and allow wares to sit at room temperature.
Handling & Storage
Handle ceramics like you would handle anything you love! Ensure their longevity and preserve their beauty by drying them and stacking them carefully with soft liners (or a few sheets of tissue paper) in between pieces to cushion them so that the items refrain from touching directly. Don’t overcrowd and give each piece sufficient space to reduce the risk of accidental bumps and collisions.
When moving them from one spot to another, lift them, don’t pull or push them. Try to not hit the ware against hard surfaces to prevent chipping and cracking. Opt for wooden, silicon, or plastic spoons to stir and serve!
While storing your dishes, put them in a shaded place or inside a cabinet dedicated to ceramics only. Avoid the areas where they will be constantly pushed and moved around while looking for other things in the kitchen.
Most importantly, appreciate the ‘Perfection in Imperfection’ in your beloved ceramic wares. These handcrafted beauties often have little details that prove that they are hand-handled; thoughtfully crafted with love, time, and effort by human hands. So, behold the mantra of "less is more." These small marks and perfect imperfections contribute to their unique story, defining how one-of-a-kind and exclusive your ware is.
Celebrate their journey, design story, and always remember - with a little attention and the right compassion, these pieces will prove to be more than objects; they will become companions through life. These are your gifts to loved ones, regular wares that enhance your days, and they elevate your tables when you celebrate life over a joyous occasion and a sumptuous meal. Ceramic wares don’t just plate food but also cherished memories!
